Wing extends service hours in Charlotte and Dallas-Fort Worth

Wing received FAA approval to deliver after sunset, serving more customers during important evening times.
At Wing, we’re always looking for ways to make delivery more convenient and reliable. We know customers’ needs don’t stop when the sun goes down, so we’re expanding our service hours to provide an ultra-fast delivery option when customers need it most.
Starting this week, Wing will begin delivering from 9 AM until 9 PM at select sites in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and the Charlotte Region. Drone delivery customers will have more flexibility for time-sensitive evening orders, including last-minute essentials like toothpaste or ingredients needed for tomorrow’s school lunch.
Advanced technology to fly after sunset
Wing received FAA approval to safely fly after sunset, and safety remains our top priority in these darker conditions. Our aircraft use near-infrared illuminators, which act like headlights for the drone. This technology illuminates the surroundings with light that is typically invisible to the human eye, allowing for navigation without creating light pollution. Even in dark conditions, Wing’s aircraft can perceive and adapt to evolving neighborhoods, distinguishing between a safe delivery spot, like a lawn, and an obstacle.
Wing designed and rigorously tested this technology in complex, real-world scenarios, including:
Interacting with dynamic ground lights, such as holiday lights and moving cars.
Safely navigating reflective surfaces, such as a swimming pool.
Flights over completely dark fields, which present different issues for our visual navigation system to understand than typical suburban environments.
Extended service for select neighborhoods
Wing’s extended hours will be available first to the following locations beginning Thursday, March 5:
Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex: Eligible Walmart customers near Walmart Supercenter #471, 150 N Interstate 35 E, Lancaster, TX 75146.
Charlotte Region: Eligible DoorDash customers near The Arboretum Shopping Center.
To check drone delivery eligibility, visit wing.com/getdelivery.
Local residents may notice drones flying with small red and green lights as they deliver through the neighborhood. We’ll continue to listen to customer and partner feedback, as Wing plans to extend hours across more delivery sites.
Wing is committed to operating transparently and being a responsible member of the communities we serve. Questions about Wing’s operations? Contact us at support@wing.com.
