Wing celebrates 3 years of drone delivery in DFW

On this day in 2022, city officials, business leaders, and community members gathered in a Frisco park to watch the first ever drone delivery in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
Back then, it was the only major U.S. metropolitan area with the technology, and most of the people in the crowd had a cellphone in hand to capture the moment. The drone arrived, set down its package, and flew away.
Since then, highly automated delivery drones have become part of everyday life for residents all around the DFW region – leading some to nickname Texas the “Drone Star State.”
Seven days a week, Wing delivery drones are helping parents stuck at home with sick kids; they’re bringing missing ingredients to home cooks, and lunches to work-from-home employees.
Since launching in DFW in 2022, Wing has:
Completed more than 75,000 deliveries in the Dallas area alone.
Flown more than 315,000 miles – More than the entire length of Texas' highway network, which stretches across 314,000 miles of public road. That's like flying from the Lone Star State all the way to the Moon!
Maintained an average flight time (from takeoff to delivery) of 3 minutes and 27 seconds – Faster than the average song on the radio.
Even after 3 years of growth, Wing is still just getting started.
The Dallas-Fort Worth community has embraced this technology over the past three years, and we’re looking forward to many more years to come.
