KDDI and Wing Partner to Bring Drone Delivery to Japan

Drone delivery is on the horizon in Japan. Through a landmark partnership with KDDI Corporation and KDDI SmartDrone, Wing is bringing autonomous drone delivery to one of the most innovative markets in the world.

Japan is currently navigating a unique set of challenges, often referred to as the "2024 logistics problem." With a declining working-age population that will benefit from fast delivery at home, compounded by a declining delivery driver workforce, the need for new, efficient delivery solutions has never been greater.

As Japan develops a safe, scalable regulatory framework for drone delivery, KDDI Corporation, KDDI SmartDrone (KSD), and Wing will bring expertise and a proven track record to the market. With KDDI Group’s strong communication infrastructure and its expertise in scaling new technology in Japan, along with Wing’s leading aviation technology, our shared goal is to launch service in select areas in Japan by the end of 2027, and to bring drone delivery to areas across Japan in the coming years.
