Greater Houston kicks off Walmart and Wing’s biggest expansion year yet

Greater Houston’s urban spread, growing population and demand for speed and convenience make it the ideal first market of the year for Walmart and Wing’s continued drone delivery expansion. The service offers Houstonians a fast and fresh way to get essentials, delivering everything from last-minute items like baby wipes to forgotten dinner ingredients such as fresh tomatoes or ground beef, in as fast as 30 minutes.

"We’ve seen how much Texans value having a fast, safe way to get what they need from the skies, and we are now serving one of the largest and most dynamic metropolitan areas in the country."

Together, Wing and Walmart have already completed hundreds of thousands of drone deliveries across dozens of sites in the U.S. including the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and, most recently, Metro Atlanta. 

Now delivering in Greater Houston 

Across Greater Houston, everyday household essentials, last-minute groceries, and over-the-counter medicines are taking flight. Starting today, Walmart customers can order items like baby food, toothpaste, or even eggs, for delivery by Wing drone. Residents in communities surrounding five local stores can now access this delivery option:

Redefining the future of retail delivery

The Greater Houston launch marks a critical milestone in Wing and Walmart’s path to redefine the future of retail delivery. Walmart and Wing recently announced new plans to continue expanding the service from coast-to-coast, bringing drone delivery to more than 270 stores across the nation. 

Wing’s highly automated, lightweight drones are custom-designed in the U.S. to operate safely in densely populated areas, flying at about 150 feet and reaching up to about 60 mph. The drones utilize a unique tether and winch system to gently lower packages weighing up to about 2.5 pounds to a precise spot about the size of a picnic blanket on a customer's property.

Houstonians can follow these steps to start getting what they need in minutes from the skies: 

• Check Eligibility: Visit wing.com/walmart to verify if an address is within the service area.

• Order via the Wing App: Place orders for eligible Walmart items directly through the Wing app.

Join the Waitlist: Residents not currently in a service area can sign up to be notified when Wing drone delivery lands in their neighborhood.
