Earlier this year, Wing completed a first-of-its-kind technology trial. The company gave Christiansburg, Virginia residents access to remote ID technology to allow them to identify and view Wing drones in flight in their community.
Participants included Wing delivery customers, first responders, manned aircraft pilots, drone hobbyists, and members of the general public. They were given access to Wing’s RemoteID Viewer, an app that demonstrates network-based remote ID. Wing’s app provides real-time location, altitude, speed and other data about the company’s delivery drones when they are in the vicinity.
Drone technology has the potential to create significant benefits for local economies and communities. The establishment of regulations and tools to support the remote identification of aircraft will be a critical enabler for further development of these kinds of transformative technologies.
