About the Role: 

Wing is seeking a Technical Publications Manager to join our Flight Operations Team based in Palo Alto, CA with an option to work remotely. The Technical Publications Manager will manage the writing and editing team that creates and maintains manuals and documents for Wing’s global Flight Operations. This role establishes and communicates the strategic direction for lean, effective, easy-to-maintain content through proactive engagement with the Leadership, Engineering, Training, and Flight Operations teams. The Technical Publications Manager maintains a holistic view of Flight Operations content and will guide the team to establish and adopt new processes and tool sets that enable fast and efficient workflows. The ideal candidate has a passion for aviation with demonstrated knowledge of industry best practices for technical documentation and the ability to deliver results as part of a dynamic, cross-functional team.

What You’ll Do: 

  • Manage the writing team by setting their goals, priorities, and career development path; engage with partner teams (such as Training and Engineering) to drive consistency and reduce content duplication
  • Identify global content requirements and translate this into a documentation strategy for technical publications
  • Direct technical publication projects and manage their internal approvals through Wing committees and review boards
  • Identify and resolve issues relating to documentation project schedules, resource availability, documentation structure, documentation design, and deliverables
  • Establish new processes, document controls, and tools that facilitate documentation improvements and project transparency

What You’ll Need: 

  • BA/BS degree in a relevant field
  • At least 7 years of experience managing and leading technical writing teams
  • Demonstrated experience creating strategic content goals
  • Relevant experience producing technical documentation for a specific audience, written to an established style guide, and using a structured authoring environment
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment; ability to work across functional and organizational boundaries
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills


  • Experience with XML tools, such as MadCap Flare, Adobe FrameMaker, or Oxygen
  • Aviation licenses or certifications (e.g. FAA pilot licenses such as Remote Pilot, Private/Commercial, or CFI)
  • Passion for developing world-class content
  • Driven self-starter and problem solver with experience working in a growth-oriented startup culture
  • Technical project or program management experience
