About Wing:

Wing is reshaping the future of delivery. We are an on-demand drone delivery service that can deliver food, medicine or other items within minutes. We’ve also developed an unmanned traffic management platform to safely route drones through the sky. Our service is faster, safer and produces far less pollution than traditional delivery. We flew our first test flights in Australia in 2014 and today we operate our delivery service to customers in Canberra and Brisbane. 

About the Role:

As General Manager for Australia you’ll work closely with Wing Leadership to understand the business’ overall goals, listen to and engage with local community and political leadership, combine with your own operational experience, and translate into a growth strategy for business operations. You will attract, retain and grow a high-performing operations team, continually reinventing roles as the business needs evolve. Your feedback will help central teams (e.g. product and engineering) continually improve our delivery service offering and optimise system performance.

What You’ll Do:

  • Own, manage and be accountable for Wing’s local growth strategy
      • Work closely with Wing Leadership to understand overall business goals
      • Create and communicate your growth strategy locally and to central teams
      • Regularly report on goal progress and achievement
  • Support, motivate and manage the in-country team 
      • Develop and implement a workforce strategy, partnering with Talent Acquisition to attattract, interview and hire great people
      • Onboard, develop and retain your workforce by maintaining a series of trainings, providing regular coaching, and creating pathways for career advancement 
      • Monitor performance and share regular feedback to your organisation, instilling a culture of learning from mistakes and celebrating in wins
  • Design and enforce operational policies including change management when needed
      • Design the operational processes to get work done, continually evaluating and optimising processes as needed
      • Manage change in the organisation so it can happen as smoothly as possible
      • Ensure all personnel working at Wing’s operations sites comply with company policies and processes to enable safety and compliance
  • Translate Wing’s business and technology offering into a local growth strategy
      • Integrate new merchants and partners into existing and new operational sites
      • Work within the constraints of the system or operational approval areas and in the best interests of Wing’s customers and community 
      • Monitor the technology roadmap and developments in Wing’s product offering
      • Provide a continuous feedback loop to central teams (e.g. product and engineering), articulating what’s working well and what’s not
  • Represent Wing and the brand
    • Build and grow relationships with local merchants, partners, the local community and political leadership
    • Occasionally represent Wing with press and local media

What You'll Need:

  • High-growth operations or startup experience preferred
  • Extensive experience building and managing high-performing teams
  • Exceptional communication and organisation skills
  • Project management skillset
  • Ability to work with and influence product and engineering teams
